iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer models, along with the second-generation iPhone SE and later. But installing iOS 27 does not mean every device receives every Apple Intelligence or Siri AI feature.
That distinction is the most important compatibility question before the update arrives as a free software release in the fall.
iPhones compatible with iOS 27
Apple's compatibility list includes:
- iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air
- iPhone 16 series, including iPhone 16e
- iPhone 15 series
- iPhone 14 series
- iPhone 13 series, including iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 12 series, including iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 11 series
- iPhone SE, second generation and newer
Newer iPhone models announced after this list will ship with or support the current operating system.
Which iPhones support Apple Intelligence?
Apple says the iOS 27 generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI requires iPhone 16 models or later, or iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
An iPhone 15, iPhone 14 or iPhone 11 can therefore run iOS 27 while missing the most demanding on-device AI features. Compatibility with the operating system and compatibility with its headline AI layer are separate.
Why do AI features require newer hardware?
On-device generative features need more memory, a capable neural engine and sustained processing performance. Apple also combines local processing with private cloud systems for some tasks, but the phone still has to meet the platform's hardware requirements.
Will every feature be available everywhere?
No. Apple says feature availability can vary by language, region and local regulation. Siri AI is expected to begin as a beta in supported English settings before expanding to more languages.
Users in China and the European Union may encounter different initial availability for certain AI features. Check Apple's current regional page before buying a device for one specific capability.
Before installing iOS 27
Back up the iPhone, confirm free storage and wait for the public release unless you understand beta-software risks. A supported phone may still perform better after the first maintenance updates if launch-day bugs appear.
