Valorant players competing on stage at an official VCT event

Valorant Champions Shanghai enters another elimination day on October 2, with Global Esports and T1 among the teams fighting to keep their tournament runs alive. The group stage continues through October 4 before the playoffs begin on October 6.

Champions is the final event of the 2026 Valorant Champions Tour. Sixteen teams started the competition, but only eight advance to the playoff bracket. Every lower-bracket series is therefore a direct elimination match: the winner survives, and the loser is out.

That structure leaves no room for a recovery series after a second group-stage defeat, increasing the value of preparation and composure.

October 2 match schedule

The published event listing places two elimination series on the day:

  • 2:00 a.m. PDT: elimination match featuring Global Esports
  • 5:00 a.m. PDT: elimination match featuring T1

For viewers in India, those scheduled starts convert to 2:30 p.m. IST and 5:30 p.m. IST. Broadcasts can run late if an earlier best-of-three goes to a third map, so the second match may not begin exactly on the listed time.

The official Valorant Esports schedule should be treated as the final source for opponents and any last-minute adjustment. Dynamic brackets can update faster than third-party preview pages.

What is at stake for Global Esports?

Global Esports arrive with a large South Asian following and the pressure that comes with a do-or-die international series. Their path depends on disciplined map preparation and converting advantages after the first kill.

At this stage, the brand name of an opponent matters less than map veto quality. A team forced onto a weak defensive map can lose control before its preferred compositions have a chance to matter.

Why T1 remain a major draw

T1 opened Group A with a 0-2 loss to 100 Thieves, placing them on the elimination path. The organization has experience on major stages, but reputation offers no protection in a double-elimination group.

T1 need stronger early-round consistency and cleaner conversions when holding a player advantage. In best-of-three play, losing a preferred map can force an uncomfortable decider and increase pressure on individual mechanics.

How the group format works

Each group uses a double-elimination format. Two wins generally secure advancement, while two losses eliminate a team. The upper and lower paths then determine which eight teams reach the playoffs.

The playoffs run from October 6 to October 18. Shanghai's champion will take the largest share of the event's reported $2.25 million prize pool and the most important title of the VCT season.
