Why seats open
Public screenings use assigned seating, yet TIFF holds a ticket holder's seat only until 15 minutes before the scheduled start. After that, the festival may offer unoccupied places to the rush line.
How to prepare
Arrive early, confirm the correct venue and ask staff where the official line begins. Be ready for no admission and do not schedule a tight paid activity immediately afterward.
If admitted, follow the payment method and seating instructions given at the venue. Policies can vary by screening and capacity.
Avoid resale scams
TIFF says screenshots are not valid because tickets use SafeTix technology. Buy through TIFF Festival Account Manager or Ticketmaster.ca, and transfer tickets using the official platform rather than an image sent through social media.
Ticket holders should also arrive early
Rush access is possible because late ticket holders can lose their guaranteed seat. TIFF recommends arriving 30 minutes before a screening. Bag checks and downtown travel disruption can consume that margin.
