Riot's published schedule divides the postseason into four stages:
- September 12-13: opening playoff weekend
- September 18-20: first Superweek
- September 25-27: second Superweek
- October 3-4: LCS Championship weekend at Gas South Arena near Atlanta, Georgia

How the qualification race works
The top six regular-season teams enter the playoff bracket. The format includes an expanded lower-bracket gauntlet, meaning a team can survive one setback depending on where it enters and how the bracket develops.
The central number is three. The top three LCS finishers earn North America's places at Worlds 2026. That makes the series deciding third place as consequential as the championship itself.
Why best-of-three preparation still matters
The summer regular season uses a single round robin of best-of-three series. That rewards teams that can adapt between games rather than relying on one successful draft.
In playoffs, preparation becomes narrower and deeper. Coaches can target an opponent's champion pool, early-game pathing or side selection. Teams also need alternative plans because a strategy exposed in Game 1 may disappear in Game 2.
What is a lower-bracket gauntlet?
A gauntlet structure asks lower-positioned teams to win successive elimination series. Higher seeds receive a shorter or more favourable route, giving regular-season placement meaningful value.
For viewers, it creates two different stories. The upper side of the bracket rewards consistency, while the lower side offers a potential survival run. A team dropping into the lower path has no margin for another defeat.
Atlanta championship weekend
The final two days move the competition to Gas South Arena in the Atlanta area. Riot scheduled the championship for October 3 and 4, creating a live-event finish immediately before attention shifts fully toward Worlds.
