The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 is already a major search topic because it will bring the tournament back to southern Africa for the first time since 2003. The confirmed co-hosts are South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, and the tournament is scheduled for October and November 2027.
What is confirmed
The ICC's event-planning material says the 2027 World Cup will have 14 teams and 54 matches. The first stage is planned as two groups of seven, followed by a Super Six stage, semi-finals and a final. That is a different shape from the ten-team round-robin used in 2023, so readers should not assume that every team plays every other team in the opening phase.
South Africa and Zimbabwe are the Full Member hosts named in the qualification pathway. Namibia is also a co-host, and its new Windhoek ground has been developed as part of preparations for the event. Venue lists, ticket arrangements and the final match schedule should be treated as unconfirmed until the ICC publishes them.
How qualification works
The pathway has two parts. Ten teams, including the named Full Member hosts, are expected to qualify through the ICC men's ODI rankings at the cut-off set by the ICC. The remaining four places are to come through the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier. That makes League 2 and qualifier results important well before the tournament begins.
A qualification article should separate confirmed rules from speculation about which teams will make it. Rankings move, and a side's current position is not a qualification guarantee until the relevant cut-off is reached.
Why the format matters
A seven-team group makes each early match consequential. Teams will not have unlimited room to recover from a poor start, while the Super Six stage adds a second calculation: results carried forward can shape who reaches the semi-finals. Fans following an associate nation should therefore watch the qualification pathway as closely as the established teams.
