The Howard Stern Show is expanding from satellite radio to global streaming, with a weekly video edition launching on HBO Max on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The new series will adapt Stern's live Monday show on SiriusXM into a streamable episode released three days later. It is not a separate talk show and it will not replace the live radio programme. Instead, HBO Max viewers will receive an edited visual version built from the same studio conversations, comedy and celebrity interviews.
SiriusXM says 40 cameras will capture the live production. HBO Max episodes will also include occasional extra material, giving viewers more than the short video clips historically released from the radio show.
The partnership arrives as Stern begins a reduced once-a-week live schedule and reorganises his Howard 100 channel, while remaining under contract with SiriusXM through 2028.

Release times outside the United States can vary by local HBO Max listings. The announced 12:01 a.m. Pacific launch corresponds to 8:01 a.m. in the United Kingdom and 9:01 a.m. in Central Europe on September 17.
What will the HBO Max version include?
Each episode will use footage captured during Stern's Monday broadcast. The production will draw on 40 studio cameras, allowing editors to show the host, co-presenter Robin Quivers, guests and staff interactions that audio listeners can only imagine.
Stern's programme regularly moves between long celebrity interviews, current-affairs commentary, comedy segments, staff stories and live musical performances. The HBO Max edition can turn those elements into a conventional weekly screen experience without changing the core live show.
SiriusXM and HBO Max have not announced a fixed episode length. The word “adapted” suggests the streaming cut will be shaped for on-demand viewing rather than simply uploading several hours of continuous studio footage.
The companies have also promised “periodic extras.” They have not yet specified whether those will be extended interviews, backstage material, performances or separate short features.
Is Howard Stern leaving SiriusXM?
No. Stern's live show remains exclusive to SiriusXM, and the company says his agreement runs through 2028.
The HBO Max partnership is a distribution expansion. SiriusXM remains the home of the live Monday broadcast and Stern's extensive archive, while HBO Max receives a weekly video adaptation.
This distinction matters for fans deciding which service they need. Listeners who want the full programme as it happens still need SiriusXM. Viewers who prefer a polished, visual edition can wait until Thursday and watch on HBO Max.
The arrangement also lets SiriusXM extend the value of a programme it already produces. One live broadcast can serve radio listeners, on-demand audio users, social clips and now a premium streaming audience.
The new Howard Stern Show weekly schedule
The new season begins on SiriusXM on September 14, with fresh live shows every Monday.
On the same date, Howard 100 will introduce a revised lineup. “Wrap Up Wednesday,” an expanded version of the post-show discussion hosted by Gary Dell'Abate and Jon Hein, becomes part of the schedule.
The Howard Stern section of the SiriusXM app is also adding “Howard Stern Decades,” organising material from or about the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. That gives subscribers a clearer way to navigate a library built across several eras of Stern's career.

Short video clips have helped individual conversations travel across YouTube and social media. A full weekly streaming edition turns that scattered viewing into a consistent product with a predictable release day.
HBO Max also gives Stern international reach beyond SiriusXM's North American subscription base. The streamer can introduce him to viewers who know his celebrity interviews through viral clips but have never subscribed to satellite radio.
For HBO Max, the series adds a relatively frequent unscripted title anchored by a recognised host. A weekly programme can keep subscribers returning between the platform's major drama, comedy and film releases.
The partnership has precedent. Stern's 2022 interview with Bruce Springsteen was presented on HBO, demonstrating that a long-form conversation from his radio environment could work as premium television.
What is changing for longtime fans?
The biggest change is frequency. Stern's live programme is moving to one new show per week rather than the more frequent schedule listeners have known in recent years.
The new video edition partly offsets that reduction by creating a second weekly release. It does not, however, provide a second original live show. Thursday's episode is derived from Monday's content.

No complete guest list for the HBO Max premiere has been announced. Recent Stern guests cited by SiriusXM include Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Eric Andre, Jack Antonoff, Nikki Glaser, Kate Hudson, Taylor Sheridan, David Spade, Sting and Shaggy, Karl-Anthony Towns and Eddie Vedder.
Because the streaming episode follows the Monday radio programme, the guest booked for a given live show is likely to be central to that week's HBO Max adaptation. Viewers should expect announcements closer to each broadcast.
Do viewers need both HBO Max and SiriusXM?
It depends on how they want to follow the show.
An HBO Max subscription should be enough for the weekly filmed adaptation. A SiriusXM subscription is necessary for the live Monday broadcast, the wider Howard 100 schedule and deeper access to the audio archive.
The two products overlap but are not identical:
- SiriusXM: Live, longer-form audio programme plus channel and archive access.
- HBO Max: Edited weekly video episode with occasional extras.
Existing SiriusXM access does not automatically imply HBO Max access, and HBO Max subscribers should not assume the streaming cut includes every minute of the live show.

The Howard Stern agreement reflects a larger shift in audio entertainment. Major podcasts and radio shows increasingly film entire sessions, turning a single recording into multiple formats.
Video gives audiences more ways to discover a conversation, while audio remains convenient in cars, headphones and daily routines. The strongest media brands no longer have to choose one distribution channel.
Stern's move is particularly notable because his career has already crossed terrestrial radio, satellite, books and television. The HBO Max series turns his current radio studio into a global weekly streaming set without requiring him to abandon the platform that has hosted him for more than two decades.
The key test will be editing. If the HBO Max version preserves the spontaneity of the live show while making several hours of material feel focused on screen, it could reach viewers far beyond Stern's established fan base. If too much of the live context is lost, existing listeners may continue to prefer SiriusXM.
For now, the split is clear: listen live on Mondays, watch the adapted version on Thursdays, and expect the first HBO Max episode on September 17.
